It’s 14th November! The day we celebrate as children’s day! More than anything else, why this day feels special is because it takes me down the memory lane. It reminds me of what fun it was to be a child! What described fun was getting a pack of candies when it was someone’s birthday in school, waking up to a bunch of gifts on Christmas mornings and playing fun games like hopscotch (well, we called it step-oo then!), land, sea, water, ocean and many others! And what we would wait for were our summer breaks when we could plan a big fat vacation to our nani’s (maternal grandparent) house, where we were pampered and had no worries about anything! Only bother was…goshhh…we have been given summer homework!…but hey that used to happen just like a day before the school was about to restart! The last day would go in covering our new books, packing our bags and getting the entire house to help us finish our homework!! The elder siblings were the soft targets for this! And god…what a pain it was to wake up early morning after 2 months of holiday! And then the first day at school would start with everyone talking about their vacations, showing-off new school bags and tiffin boxes and water bottles….until the teacher entered the class to say…..’finger on your lips’!!
There was innocence, there was stubbornness, there was fun, there was freshness, there was a charm in everything we did and yet we secretly wished to become adults soon!…Well, the adults didn’t have to study, they didn’t have exams, they could choose to eat what they liked and go alone whenever they wanted! But look at how the tables have turned! As adults we wish to keep the child in us alive, who could be carefree, who could have no worries about jobs, life, break-ups, marriage, career goals or about visiting banks to keep up with new government policies!!!
Godd…the words also seem to be getting heavier as I mention ADULTHOOD! So hey…let’s end this here!
Wishing you all a very HAPPY CHILDREN’S DAY! and let’s hope the day helps us keep the child in us alive…today and always!! 🙂
